My TEDx Talk Was Delayed for 6 Years—It Led Me to a Bigger Realization About AI and Authority

What a 6-year TEDx delay taught me about building a 6-figure podcast—and why AI is changing how professionals get discovered, trusted, and paid.

From Rejection to Relevance: What TEDx Taught Me About the End of the Attention Economy

In 2020, I was selected to give a TEDx talk.

And then… it never happened.

Like many things COVID, it was canceled. No reschedule. No follow-up. Just silence.

I tried applying to other TEDx events—but the reality was clear: I hadn’t networked my way into those circles, the organizers didn’t know who I was. I didn’t have the visibility.

Before 2020, my thesis—that AI would force individuals to take risks, become entrepreneurial, and realize their true work—was early.

It wasn’t obvious or widely accepted. After COVID, the shift accelerated—and the idea had already passed into reality.

At the time, it felt like a missed opportunity. Like the world was conspiring against me.

Now, six years later, I realize it was something else entirely:

It was premature.

The Talk I Was Going to Give vs. The Talk I’m Giving Now

Back in 2020, my message was centered around resilience, leadership, and navigating uncertainty.

It was relevant. Timely. Thoughtful.

But it wasn’t transformational.

Because the world hadn’t shifted yet.

Today, the talk I’m preparing is fundamentally different:

AI is ending the attention economy.

That’s not a trend. That’s a structural shift.

What Changed?

For the past decade, the rules were simple:

  • Get attention
  • Grow followers
  • Increase engagement
  • Monetize visibility

This was the playbook across platforms—whether you were building on YouTube, podcasting, or social media.

But with the rise of AI systems like ChatGPT, the model is breaking.

We are no longer searching.

We are asking.

And more importantly—

We are trusting the answers.

The Shift: From Attention → Authority

AI doesn’t reward the loudest voice.

It rewards the most credible, consistent, and contextually relevant voice.

That changes everything.

  • You don’t need millions of followers
  • You don’t need viral content
  • You don’t need to “hack” algorithms

What you need is:

Authority.

Because AI is becoming the new gatekeeper.

Not editors.
Not social media algorithms.

But synthesizers.

Why My TEDx Delay Was a Gift

If I had given that talk in 2020, it would’ve been forgotten.

Because it was built for the old system.

The delay forced me to:

  • Build a media platform
  • Interview hundreds of high-level operators
  • Study how visibility actually converts into revenue
  • Watch firsthand how AI is reshaping discovery

In other words—

I didn’t just prepare a talk.

I lived the thesis.

What This Means for You (And Why It Matters Now)

If you are a:

  • Physician
  • Entrepreneur
  • Investor
  • Creator

Then this shift impacts how you:

  • Get discovered
  • Build trust
  • Monetize your expertise

Because your audience is no longer just searching Google.

They are asking AI:

  • “Who should I trust?”
  • “What’s the best strategy?”
  • “Who actually knows what they’re doing?”

And AI is deciding what shows up.

The Podcast Is No Longer About Downloads

This is something I emphasize constantly on my show:

Podcasting isn’t about downloads. It’s about positioning.

The real ROI is:

  • Authority
  • Access
  • Relationships
  • Deal flow

That’s why every episode, every guest, every conversation is intentional.

Because in an AI-driven world:

Your content becomes your reputation at scale.

Where This Is Going

The creators who win in the next decade will not be:

  • The most viral
  • The most entertaining
  • The most consistent posters

They will be the most:

  • Trusted
  • Referenced
  • Contextually relevant

In other words—

The ones AI chooses to surface.

Final Thoughts

Getting rejected—or delayed—from TEDx felt like a setback.

But in reality, it gave me something far more valuable:

Timing.

Because this message matters more now than it ever could have back then.

That’s the idea I’ll be taking to the TEDx stage.

But a talk like this isn’t built overnight. It’s refined, tested, and pressure-tested over time.

In the next few issues, I’m going to take you behind the scenes as I prepare—how I’m shaping the TEDx message, what I’m keeping, what I’m cutting, and how I’m thinking about positioning it for maximum impact.

At the core of it are three ideas I’ll be developing:

  • Why AI is ending the attention economy
  • What replaces attention: authority, trust, and positioning
  • And how individuals can adapt—through branded media content, video, and entrepreneurship

6 Marketing Shifts That Are Quietly Reshaping in 2026 Why authority, conversations, and alignment now matter more than traffic Over the past few weeks, I’ve been reflecting on conversations, patterns, and decisions that are quietly reshaping how marketing actually works in 2026. PodFest 2026 (Orlando, Florida) Some of those insights crystallized while attending Podfest 2026—not because of any single talk or tactic, but because of what kept coming up in side conversations, business models,...

New Perspectives: From Execution to Intention As we leave 2025 and head into 2026, I’ve been spending time reflecting on what truly mattered this past year—and what no longer does. The shift has been subtle but meaningful: less noise, more alignment; fewer reactions, more intention. This newsletter is where I’ll share those reflections in real time—less about headlines or hype, and more about the ideas, conversations, books, and decisions that are shaping how I think, build, and live going...

Best AI for SEO: Tools That Bridge Google Ranking and AI Content Optimization In the first article of this series, we explored the major shift shaking up the digital landscape — how AI SEO keywords are replacing traditional Google SEO tactics as users move from typing fragmented search phrases to asking full, conversational questions in tools like ChatGPT and Gemini. The takeaway was clear: the rules of visibility online are changing, and brands that adapt early will lead the next era of...
